i am Rebecca

I am a Malaysian artist and painter. A weaver and textile print designer by training, I work mainly with paint on paper. I paint my now personal ‘dreamscapes’ and visual memories that give a sense of place, all influenced by my love for flora, fauna, and cultural heritage. These images fill my thoughts after journeys and travel.

Colour, pattern and textures feature in all my nature inspired paintings. Before Covid hit, in December 2019, I began to really work on using my art to highlight issues that impact women & children. How women & environment are treated the world over, are connected by a thread that sews itself tightly to the history & study of botany & natural history, & the voyages of discovery, that spread plants as commodities, all over the world. My solo exhibition ‘Forbidden Fruit- Sex Women & Botany’ was my first attempt at getting all my thoughts out there. It is a subject that I am passionate about & I continue to work on these thoughts & stories through history in a continuing series called ‘Capturing Exotics’.

I work between my home studios in Penang, Malaysia, and Piemonte, Italy.

Currently:

  • I am currently working on work on a few interesting commissions that will come to fruition as we go through 2024.

  • I continue to research & work through my thoughts & ‘still life’ paintings for my series ‘Capturing Exotics’

  • I am always available for commissions so please do email me on <rebeccaduckett@mac.com>
