ARTISTIC WORKSHOP RETREAT with Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson at TIGER ROCK.
Pool House art workshop set up for printing & larger works
What are my retreats about:
“I’ve been running these art retreats at Tiger Rock, our family’s jungle home, since 2018 & not one of them has been the same. Each retreat gifts new ideas, experiences & is so inspiring & productive, not just for the participants who come, but also for me. I learn so much facilitating each retreat, & I find that sharing my own experience as an artist is very fulfilling.”
“My own work is about colour, pattern, layers & joy. I make no apology for this & I hope that it rubs off on you while you are with me!“
“The great thing about Tiger Rock is that you don’t need to think about anything. Meals are prepared with fresh market ingredients, there are no menus, activities are all included so you don’t need to plan anything while you are with us. Just go with the flow & make your art. “

Rebecca says….
“I look forward to welcoming you to my lovely jungle home on Pangkor Island, Perak, Malaysia. Tiger Rock & the community on the island of Pangkor provides me with so much inspiration for my own artwork & I know that it will rub off on you!
My own work is all about colour, pattern, layers & joy. I make no apology for this. Have a look at my work & you will see that I always work around different themes, ideas all the time. But, the connection is my passion nature, my environment & its importance to life.
You will experience four days, three nights of total immersion, making art in the jungle, nourishing your soul & body with deliciously fresh local island food, all cooked to perfection by our wonderful chef Bavanni & her jungle kitchen team.
I will make sure you do the hard work! Lots of different materials, techniques, great island & jungle inspiration.
The retreat is open to adults. Beginners who wish to start an art practice are welcome, as are practicing artists looking for a little prod to try something new or who need a fresh ‘reset’ in how they make their work. It’s a great way for anyone who wants a change to their normal routine of making or thinking about art.
Non artists who think & say, “I love art but I’m not good at it” are very welcome! I love seeing all the great work created at the end of the retreat. You just need to want to start & come with an intention to work freely & with a positive joy.
In the long run ‘getting good at art’ is about building a set of skills, practice, focus, & the dedication of time.
We’ll be looking close up & studying the structure of various subjects found around Tiger Rock & Pangkor. My love for the jungle, the still life arrangements that we find & photograph locally around Pangkor, will be highlighted. Practice will be with pencil, pen, charcoal, oil pastel & water based paint.
We will be working on location, out in plain air & at the different spaces around Tiger Rock. You will be made to practice an achievable routine for making art, & evening time can be spent working on your own sketchbooks & individual pieces.
The whole retreat is about freely sketching, drawing, printing & painting your chosen subject matter. Please note that it will be a busy weekend & you will be very much expected to work. It is a very full itinerary.
The practice of art is a form of meditation. It is relaxing & stress relieving. At Tiger Rock, no one will be judging you. Come draw, relax & play putting marks on paper.”
